Oral Implantology Study Club

THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT DENTISTS WHO HAVE PLACED DENTAL IMPLANTS. IT IS FOR BOTH THE BEGINNER AND ADVANCED IMPLANTOLOGIST.


Program Description

This study club runs from January 2022 to December 2022. It includes 5 workshops (6 full days) and 5 evening seminars. In addition, there is the opportunity to book mentor-assisted surgeries in Dr. Li’s office. The program is for both the novice dentist and the advanced practitioner. Basic topics like bone grafting, extractions and implant prosthetics are included as are more advanced and cutting edge topics like full arch implant prosthetics and ridge split bone grafting techniques. There is an annual staff day covering topics pertaining to the entire dental team.

FULL DAY WORKSHOPS (9am – 4pm)

APRIL 23, 2022 (Saturday)

Dr. Jie Yang and Various Speakers: Reading CBCT scans for implant dentistry

Dr. Yang is a professor and director of oral and maxillofacial radiology at Temple University in Philadel- phia, past president of American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR), and past president of International Association of Dento-Maxillo-Facial Radiology (IADMFR). In the morning, he will demonstrate reading of CBCT scans for implant dentistry. Common pathologies pertaining to implant dentistry will also be discussed. Please bring your laptop for a “hands-on” portion installed with the free Romexis viewer. In the afternoon, multiple study club members will present on how they use CBCT scans to practice implant dentistry. Freehand surgery, lab-processed guided surgery, optically guided surgery, and 3D printed guided surgery steps will also be discussed. This is a chance to see various workflows from different offices in planning implant cases with scans.

JUNE 17 & 18, 2022 (Friday & Saturday)

Dr. Sherif Said: Khoury Technique – Bone Grafting

This is a bone grafting technique using a ridge split and then packing bone between the two plates. Dr. Said may also speak on sinus grafting. There may be a hands-on portion later in the day. The second day is for assisted surgeries. Surgeries will be live streamed.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2022 (Saturday)

Michelle Ryckmann: Strategic Approach to Case Presentation: Getting Your Patients to Say “Yes” Presenting dental treatment to patients can be uncomfortable and often quite intimidating yet is essential for the financial well-being of any dental office. This one-day course is designed to provide an environment of education and support for staff members that are asked to present treatment to patients. Best practices will be discussed and considered, as well as ways to develop in-office protocols that will maximize your chances of success.

OCTOBER 15, 2022 (Saturday)

Dr. Michael Yang: Anterior Implant Esthetics

This program will focus on the single tooth anterior implant. Content on managing adjacent natural teeth and multiple implants will also be discussed. Complications and digital workflow will be included.

NOVEMBER 26, 2022 (Saturday)

Dr. Scott Martyna: Full Arch Implants – Smile in a Box

Dr. Martyna is an oral surgeon and will present on treatment planning and treating the fully edentulous arch. All components of this process will be covered from the initial consultation, treatment sequencing and conversion of temporary prosthesis. New and efficient temporization protocols for full arch cases will be discussed using a digital work flow.

Dr. Clifford Pau: Updates in Dental Pharmacology

Dr. Clifford Pau is a dentist and pharmacist. Come learn updates on antibiotic usage and various other changes to our drug protocols.

Guided surgery has increased in popularity over the years. For larger cases, there are multiple steps like alveoplasty and insertion of the temporaries that regular guides do not address. Dr. Pidzarko will discuss a milled metal guided surgery option for alveoplasty, implant placement, and positioning of lab-processed temporaries. It is an opportunity to increase the speed and lower the stress associated with full arch cases.

DECEMBER 8, 2022 (Thursday)

Various Speakers: Different implant systems

A summary of our experience with a variety of implant systems. Decipher different implant designs and how they reflect the chance of peri-implantits and bone loss, ease of surgical placement, implant stability,ease of prosthetic steps, and more. A variety of other speakers will be presenting their experience with different systems.

*Social distancing rules will be followed. In-person attendees will be spaced appropriately with one dentist per table. There will be ventilation from open windows. Food and drink served in individual portions. All events will be broadcast over zoom including hands on portions. Hands on materials will be distributed to dentist attending at home. This is an opportunity for safe in-person events to continue our growth in implant dentistry. Program dates and logistics may change depending on changes to provincial gathering regulations.

SURGERY SESSIONS

Mondays & Saturdays: 2 per month with 4 surgery slots per day that are mentor-assisted

• Additional fees for surgeries ranging from: $775 – $1260 (no tax) • Additional fees for materials and components used
• Option to use your own implants and materials
• X-rays and pictures taken and posted on a secure website

The British Columbia Institute of Oral Implantology is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider of the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit.
